Headin' to Kansas!

"The Dirty Kanza" a.k.a "The DK 200"
That's what they call it and the good folks of Salsa Cycles (sponsor of the event) are sparing no expense to make this ultra gravel crusher something to remember. In collaboration with Jim Cummins (one of the co-directors) this is shaping up to be one hell of an event. Highly organized and well thought out the DK is looking like one of the main stays of the gravel road racing business. Correction, not looking like, IT IS!
The Salsa riders are being hosted by a local rider who just so happens to live in a log home over looking the Flint Hills. Knowing that I'd sleep in a ditch if it meant riding in the DK I'm in heaven with the idea of 'kickin' it in a spread like this. I mean this guy even has his own bike shop in his house.
The city of Emporia, Ka has gone all out to welcome riders to their area. The finish area is complete with a block party atmosphere with streets closed to traffic, bands, beer, inflatable slides for the kids, bike tours during the race so family and friends can ride on portions of the course we'll be suffering on, oh and massages for the finishers. So cool! I'm probably leaving a ton of stuff out, but you get the idea.
I'm pumped and planning on giving 'er all I got. Now, if I could just get my last minute mechanical figured out. Damn shifter!!
Special thanks to Salsa for going all out on this one as well as the directors and volunteers of the DK200.

Awesome work Tim!! 5th overall and besting the Joe with a half-bike finish line sprint! Can't wait to read your play-by-pain, I mean play!
