Thank You Sir, May I Have Another?

I've been feeling like since the Dirty Kanza I haven't been on my bike enough. I needed a long ride and I needed it bad. I decided to hook up with fellow DBD'er, Jason Buffington or 'Big Buff'. We were both looking for between 5 and 6 hours of ride time on gravel. This would be perfect. With the ride being organized early in the week I felt a short fast ride was in order for the day before. I would ride a familiar 2 hour loop with the goal of "killing it" in mind. I set my virtual guy up on the GPS and the race was on. I hate/love this guy who I have affectionately named Jorge (pronounced Whore Hey) . Jorge and I would beat up on each other this day. Suffice it to say I ended up time trialing the whole 30 miles and came home pretty wasted. This was good I thought. I proceeded to blow the entire recovery process from this point forward.

Here's what not to do before going on a 90 mile gravel road ride with 'Big Buff':
  • Eat a late lunch/supper at Buffalo Wild Wings and call that good for food intake.
  • Attend one of the bars that occupies the seamy under belly of Duluth to see a band called "Night Crawler" who specializes in covers from the 70's.*
  • Consume 5 tall frosty mugs of suds while mock planning a bike tour through Northwest Minnesota, all the while knowing it will probably never happen (while listening to Night Crawler).
  • Go to bed at midnight, with a significant buzz.

Big Buff absolutely handed it to me. I felt like his little boy trying to keep up with him on a 20" wheeled bike, constantly calling out, "Dad, wait for me!"

Thanks Buff, I went home, held down the couch for the rest of the afternoon and iced my knee.

*The reader should know that the last time I was in this bar I was drawn into a physical altercation with a woman on the sidewalk in front of the establishment. No punches were thrown BY ME, but I definitely won the verbal fight.

Maybe the name was really 'Night Brawler'. Oh, and please - Buffalo Wild Wings does not 'serve' 'food' whatsoever. Please heed this advice.
